Abstract

This study discusses the geopolitical dynamics in Southeast Asia in the context of the development of the Kra Canal in Thailand, focusing on the roles of major powers, regional powers, and meso powers. The Kra Canal, which is planned to connect the Andaman Sea with the Gulf of Thailand, has the potential to reshape the economic and political landscape of the region. Major powers such as the United States and China, with their strategic and economic interests, play an important role in determining the future of this project. On the other hand, regional powers like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam are considering the potential impacts on the political and economic stability in their own regions, particularly in terms of trade flows and political influence. Meso powers, including smaller countries like Thailand and other ASEAN nations, also hold significant influence in the diplomatic processes and regional cooperation related to the Kra Canal development. This research analyzes how the interaction between major powers, regional powers, and meso powers affects political decisions and economic policies regarding the project. Using an international political and geopolitical analysis approach, the study identifies potential challenges and opportunities for countries in Southeast Asia, as well as how the Kra Canal development could act as a catalyst for changes in the regional power balance. Overall, this study provides insights into the complexities of global and regional power relations in response to geopolitical shifts in Southeast Asia.
