Abstract

Media bias was the partiality of the media in presenting information or news with a certain point of view. Media bias tended to be stronger when political issues became the main focus of the news. This research aimed to find out how the bias of online media Metrotvnews.com and SINDOnews.com appeared in the coverage of the Third Debate of 2024 Presidential Candidates during the period of January 6–13. This research used a qualitative approach with Robert N. Entman's framing analysis method, analyzing 52 news articles from Metrotvnews.com and 38 news articles from SINDOnews.com. The data collection techniques used were observation and documentation. The results showed that there were differences in framing between the two media in the coverage of the Third Debate of 2024 Presidential Candidates. Metrotvnews.com framed the news by emphasizing the advantages of presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan, through his statements, abilities, and support. Meanwhile, SINDOnews.com framed the news by highlighting the advantages of presidential candidate number 3, Ganjar Pranowo, through his attitude, appearance, understanding of the debate theme, and experience. Both media tried to show the superiority of political actors supported by media owners and focused on perspectives tied to the backgrounds of these actors. Violations of the principles of objectivity and media independence also indicated bias in the coverage of the Third Presidential Candidate Debate of 2024 by Metrotvnews.com and SINDOnews.com.
