Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between academic hardiness and self-efficacy in students who are working on their thesis. The hypothesis of this study is that there is a positive relationship between academic hardiness and self-efficacy. Participants in this study were 290 final year students who were writing their thesis, with incidental sampling technique. The measuring instrument used was the academic hardiness scale which refers to the aspects of commitment, control, and challenge (Kobasa, 1982) and the self-efficacy scale based on the dimensions of level, strength, and generality (Bandura, 1997). Data analysis in this study was carried out using the Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis technique. The results of the analysis showed a value of R = 0.643 with a significance of p = 0.000 (p <0.05), which indicates a significant positive relationship between academic hardiness and self-efficacy. In other words, the higher the academic hardiness of students, the higher the level of self-efficacy they have. The hypothesis of this study is acceptable.
