Abstract
CHANGES IN STEREOSCOPIC VISION AFTER CATARACT SURGERY AT DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN GENERAL HOSPITAL AND THE EYE SPECIALTY HOSPITAL IN PALEMBANG ABSTRACT Background: Stereoscopic vision is the ability to perceive depth due to retinal disparity in both eyes. Cataracts can affect stereoscopic vision as a result of decreased visual acuity and monocular diplopia. This study aims to assess stereoscopic vision in cataract patients and evaluate its changes following surgery on both eyes. Method: This study is a before-and-after analysis examining changes in stereoscopic vision following cataract surgery performed at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital and the Eye Specialty Hospital in Palembang. Data collection began in September 2024, with 38 samples meeting the study’s inclusion and exclusion criteria. Stereoscopic vision was assessed using the TNO test with red-green lenses at a distance of 40 cm, conducted preoperatively, and on postoperative days 1, 7, and 30. Changes in stereoscopic vision before and after surgery were compared using the Wilcoxon test and analyzed with SPSS version 25.0. Results: In this study, it was found that the majority of cataract patients prior to surgery had a stereoscopic vision value of 480 arc seconds, representing 70.3% of the sample. The average stereoscopic vision value before surgery in cataract patients with visual acuity of 1/60 to 6/60 was 262 arc seconds. At the 7-day postoperative follow-up, there was a significant decline in stereoscopic vision by 87% (p = 0.001). However, at the 1-month follow-up after cataract surgery, there was a significant improvement in stereoscopic vision, with an average value of 51 arc seconds, reflecting a significant improvement of 79% (p = 0.000). Conclusion: There is a significant improvement in stereoscopic vision following cataract surgery in both eyes Keywords : Stereoscopic vision, Cataract, TNO
