Abstract

This research aims to analyse the symbolic interaction process between the listeners of Gala Bunga Matahari by Sal Priadi and the meaning contained in the lyrics. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with George Herbert Mead's symbolic interaction theory as the analytical framework. There are eight selected informants who are song listeners chosen based on certain criteria, such as grief experience. The results show that the main symbols, such as “sunflowers”, have a deep meaning for listeners as a representation of hope, acceptance, and sincerity in dealing with grief. The song helps listeners go through the five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance) formulated by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Each listener interpreted the song in their own style, influenced by their personal experience, phase of grieving, and social environment. It was found that grief is both a loss and a way to move on in a more positive way. This is because the symbols and lyrics of Gala Bunga Matahari depict grief as not only sadness, but also hope. Keyword : Grief, Symbol, Lyrics, Gala Bunga Matahari, Music, Emotion Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis proses interaksi simbolik antara pendengar lagu Gala Bunga Matahari karya Sal Priadi dengan makna yang terkandung dalam liriknya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teori interaksi simbolik George Herbert Mead sebagai kerangka analisis. Terdapat delapan informan terpilih yang merupakan pendengar lagu yang dipilih berdasarkan kriteria tertentu, seperti pengalaman duka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa simbol utama, seperti "bunga matahari”, memiliki makna mendalam bagi pendengar sebagai representasi harapan, penerimaan, dan keikhlasan dalam menghadapi duka. Lagu ini membantu pendengar melalui lima tahapan duka (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance) yang dirumuskan oleh Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Setiap pendengar memaknai lagu ini dengan gaya masing – masing, dipengaruhi oleh pengalaman pribadi, fase berduka, dan lingkungan sosial mereka. Ditemukan bahwa rasa duka merupakan sebuah kehilangan sekaligus cara untuk melanjutkan hidup dengan cara yang lebih positif. Hal tersebut disebabkan karena simbol dan lirik dari lagu Gala Bunga Matahari yang menggambarkan duka tidak hanya berisikan kesedihan saja, namun juga pengharapan.
