Abstract
Unhealthy environmental sanitation and personal hygiene conditions can trigger skin disease complaints. The physical environment, especially water, can be a vehicle for transition by viruses, bacteria and fungi that cause skin diseases. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between individual characteristics, environmental sanitation, and personal hygiene of the wetland settlement community of Dusun 3 Sungai Lebung Ulu Village, Ogan Ilir with complaints of skin diseases. Quantitative method with descriptive analytic using a cross sectional approach was used in this study. A sample of 94 respondents aged >16 years was selected by simple random sampling. Quantitative data in the form of questionnaires and in-depth interviews were analyzed univariate and chi-square test to obtain bivariate values. The results showed that 26 (27,7%) respondents experienced complaints of skin diseases due to poor environmental sanitation and personal hygiene. The results of bivariate analysis showed there was a significant relationship between clean water sources (p=0,000, PR=2,300) and skin disease complaints, while the variables of age (p=0,140), gender (p=1,000), last education (p=0,336), employment status (p=0,888), toilet use (p=0,558), bathing habits (p=0,456), CTPS habits (p=1,000) and changing clothes habits (p=0,811) were not related to skin disease complaints. It is concluded that the behavior of using unqualified water sources and using them directly for activities such as bathing and washing risks causing skin disease complaints in the wetland settlement community of Dusun 3 Sungai Lebung Ulu Village, Ogan Ilir. It is recommended that the community improve personal hygiene and maintain environmental sanitation to avoid skin diseases.
