Abstract

Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the important horticultural crops for the people of Indonesia. The attack of aphid pests (Aphis gossypii) is one of the main causes of damage and reduced production of red chilli. Botanical pecticide derived from plant extracts can be used as an alternative method for controlling aphid pests, such as extracts from binahong seeds, mahogany seeds, and turi seeds. This study was conducted in Tanjung Pering Village, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. Data analysis was performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Excel software, followed by the Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at the 5% significance level. The experimental design used in this study was a randomized completely block design (RCBD) with treatments consisting of three types of plant seed extracts: binahong seed extract, mahogany seed extract, and turi seed extract. Each treatment was replicated 3 times, resulting in a total of 12 experimental plots. The application of mahogany seed, binahong seed, and turi seed extracts effectively suppressed the attack and population of A. gossypii on red chilli plants. Binahong seed extract reduced the A. gossypii population by 13.01%, mahogany seed extract reduced the population by 18.49%, and turi seed extract reduced the population by 2.74%. Among the treatments, mahogany seed extract had the most significant effect in reducing the percentage of attack, attack intensity, and aphid population. Binahong seed extract also demonstrated effectiveness, although slightly less than mahogany seed extract. In contrast, turi seed extract showed lower effectiveness compared to the other two treatments. Key words: Botanical Pecticide, Red Chilli, Aphids
