Abstract
Water potential in Indonesia can be used and utilized as an altemative energy. Water is the source of energy that is cheap and relatively easy to obtain, because the water stored potential energy and kinetic energy. Hydro potential in Indonesia for a large scale is 75 G W with an instal led capacity of 4200 M W or utilized only 5.6%. As for the small-scale hydro energy, Indonesia has a potential of 450 MW and 210 M W of new or used for around 46.67%. Microhydro is one development in the utilization of water energy. One example of this is a microhydro turbine VLH (Very Low Head Turbine). There are several types of water turbines are often used in very low head like Darricus, Gorlov, savonius, as well as the transverse turbines. Transverse turbine is one of the turbine can convert the energy flow of the river water as well as irrigation. This research was conducted in that district village Balfour tubohan by applying transverse turbine. This research tested the model with a transverse horizontal axis turbines and using the NACA 0018 airfoil blade. Objective of research is to find the best performance of the transverse horizontal axis water turbine ffom power and efficiency value. Testing was conducted with two variables, the first variable is the flow velocity and the second variable is the depth of burial of the turbine rotor. Velocity variations; 0.7 m/s and 1.0 m/s and the depth of burial of turbine rotor namely; 75% and 100%. The highest value of power at a speed of 1.0 m/s and a depth of 75% at 9.59 watt and an efficiency of 12%.
