Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect variation of the volume fraction to analyze the mechanical properties of composites polyester reinforced soda lime glass particles with a mesh o f 100,140 and. 200 of the tensile strength and bending. Types of polyester resin used is yakulac 157 BQTN, has a density of 1.2 g/cm3 while the filler used is soda lime glass particles has a density of 2.44 g/cm 3. Specimens were made by mixing the alloy in the mold through the method ofhand lay-up and tested with a tensile strength test Standard JIS Z 2201 and a bending test of JIS Z 2248. The variation of the volume used in the soda lime glass particles 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% , 40%, 45% - resin 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 55%. From the test results, the optimum results obtained in this study occurred on the variation of the volume fraction mesh size of 100, 140 and 200, the highest tensile test voltage obtained at mesh size of 200 with the volume variation 80:20(%) of 3,083 kgf/mm2, the highest tensile strain at mesh size of 200 occur in specimens 100: 0(%) of 1,041%, while the bending test at mesh size of 200 the optimum results of variation volume fraction of 70:30 (%) of 6.759 kgf/mm2 and the lowest value of the variation volume fraction of 100:0(%) of 2.428 kgf/mm2.
