Abstract

Background: Tooth extraction is one of the procedures in dentistry when the condition of the teeth can no longer be maintained with conservation treatment. This action will cause tooth socket wounds. When a wound occurs, physiologically it will be followed by a wound healing process through several phases, namely the hemostasis phase, inflammation phase, proliferation phase, and remodeling phase. Sumbawa forest honey contains flavonoids and saponins that can help accelerate the healing process of tooth socket wounds. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of 100% Sumbawa forest honey on the healing of tooth socket wounds in Wistar strain rats. Method: The type of research is an experimental laboratory with a posttest only control group design. 27 male Wistar rats were used as research samples and divided into 3 groups, namely the negative group (aquades), the 100% Sumbawa forest honey group, and the positive group (aloclair) which was given 2 times a day for 7 days. The average wound size was calculated using a Digital calliper and analyzed using the One Way Anova test and the Post Hoc Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. Results: The results of this study indicate that the Sumbawa forest honey group with a concentration of 100% is effective in helping the healing process of tooth socket wounds. Statistically, the treatment group has a significant difference (p <0.05) compared to the aloclair treatment group, and the control group with aquades. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that Sumbawa forest honey with a concentration of 100% is effective in healing tooth socket wounds in wistar strain rats compared to aloclair.
