Abstract
Beam-column joints are critical components in earthquake-resistant design, requiring careful consideration of seismic criteria due to their high sensitivity to seismic load distribution. This study investigates the performance of exterior beam-column joints with varying stirrup spacing under cyclic loading using nanocomposite polymer materials. The analysis was conducted using ANSYS, based on the finite element method. The results include hysteresis curves, maximum displacement, lateral load, stress contour, ductility, stiffness, and structural strength, as well as cumulative energy dissipation. A comparison of the performance of beam-column joints with 100 mm stirrup spacing and those with varying stirrup spacing and nanocomposite polymer material properties reveals that joint JN3 exhibits the lowest ductility value of 5.923 due to its slower structural yielding. Joint JN3 also displays the shortest stiffness curve, reaching a displacement of only 40 mm in the push and pull directions. Conversely, joint JN1 experiences the largest cumulative energy dissipation, achieving the highest displacement of 50 mm in the push and pull directions. The research results demonstrate that variations in stirrup spacing significantly impact the structural performance in withstanding cyclic loads.
