Abstract
Swampy soil is classified as acidic soil and has low soil fertility. Biochar and fertilizers can overcome this soil fertility problems. This research aims were to determine the effect of briquette biochar and Nitrogen fertilizer on paddy and absorbed N, and to obtain the best dosages of biochar and nitrogen fertilizer for paddy. The research was conducted from August 2018 until January 2019 on the Glass House, Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The analysis of chemical soil was carried out in the Laboratory of Chemistry, Biology and Soil Fertility, Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research method used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (RALF) with 9 treatment combinations. The first factor was dosage of biochar which are B0 0 tons ha-1, B1 10 tons ha-1, and B220 tons ha-1. The second factor was dosage of Nitogen fertilizer which are P0 0 kg ha-1, P1 250 kg ha-1, and P2500 kg ha-1. The results of this research showed that the application of briquette biochar and N fertilizer significantly affected plant height, maximum number of tillers and increased N uptake, but it has no significant effect on the number of productive tillers and soil N. Based on the results of analysis of variance, the combination treatment of biochar briquettes with a dose of 10 tons ha-1 and 500 kg ha-1 Nitrogen fertilizer was the best treatment because it gave a significant different effect on plant height, maximum number of tillers and increased N uptake. Conducting further research is better with the addition of organic fertilizer in order to increase nutrient sources for paddy. Keywords: Swamp Soil, Paddy, Biochar, Nitrogen Fertilizer
