Abstract
Nutritional problems can be influenced by the selection of food menu, frequency of feeding, unbalanced dish arrangement, and excessive consumption of instant food in children. The rapid development of the globalization era has led to an increase in the easily accessible instant food industry, which is often referred to as ultra-processed foods (UPFs). The unbalanced composition of UPFs and continuous consumption will have an impact on children's health and can increase the risk of overweight and obesity in children. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) consumption habits to children's nutritional status (weight for height) aged 24-59 months in Palembang. The design of this study was an analytic survey with a cross sectional study, using purposive sampling with a total sample size of 130 toddlers. The research was conducted in the working areas of the Padang Selasa, Merdeka, 23 Ilir, Sako, and Alang-alang Lebar Health Centers in Palembang. Data analysis used multivariate analysis with logistic regression test of risk factor models. The results of the analysis showed that as many as 16 (12.3%) toddlers were overweight, as many as 48 (36.9%) toddlers often consumed UPFs,. The results of multivariate analysis showed that family income influenced the relationship of UPFs consumption habits to children's nutritional status (weight for height), where toddlers who often consume UPFs are at risk of overweight 1.876 (95%CI 0.651 - 5.406), compared to toddlers who rarely consume UPFs. Based on the results of this study which shows the high consumption of UPFs in toddlers, and there are still toddlers who are overweight. Therefore, it is expected that mothers of toddlers can limit the consumption habits of UPFs in children and prioritize real foods such as fruits and vegetables to avoid consumption of UPFs in children.
