Abstract

This research was motivated by a mismatch between the strategy of developing the Musi River Tourism by the Palembang City Tourism Office and the reality that occurred and needed for the development of the Musi River Tourism. This can be seen from the minimum level of community participation and existing institutions to help the Palembang City Tourism Office in developing sustainable Musi River Tourism. This thesis aims to determine the Musi River Tourism Development Strategy by the Palembang City Tourism Office. Based on these problems, researchers used qualitative research methods with descriptive analysis. Data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews, observations, and also the use of documents. A series of research stages was conducted to obtain analysis related to this research. Based on these stages it was found that the Musi River Tourism Development Strategy by the Palembang City Tourism Office had not materialized well due to the Musi River tourism promotion strategy which had an impact on the development of sustainable Musi River Tourism. This study gives advice to the Palembang City Tourism Office should be able to develop and strengthen information and databases as preliminary data on potential and natural wealth in this case the beauty of Musi River tourism objects, and intensify forums for dialogue and communication between industry and culture as well as Palembang community, as well as to maintain partnerships with various parties including the people of Palembang City, are also needed to increase coordination among stakeholders both the government, private parties, institutions related to tourism, as well as the community and other parties involved in the partnership.
