Abstract

Based on observations of refillable drinking water depots, it was found that many still fail to meet sanitary hygiene standards. Deficiencies were identified in various aspects, including the condition of the premises, equipment, handlers, raw water sources, and the overall quality of the drinking water produced. This study aims to analyse the sanitation conditions of refillable drinking water depots within the working area of the Palemraya Health Centre, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency. This research adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive methodology. A total of 19 informants participated in the study. Data were collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews, while the physical quality of drinking water was assessed through laboratory testing. The study results revealed that one depot failed to meet the sanitary requirements, scoring 64 points. Meanwhile, eight other depots complied with the standards, achieving scores ranging from 71 to 79. Regarding the physical quality of drinking water, in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023, parameters such as turbidity, temperature, and total dissolved solids (TDS) met the required standards. However, odour tests indicated that water samples from three depots did not comply with quality requirements, while taste tests showed that water from six depots also failed to meet the standard for drinking water quality. It is recommended that drinking water quality tests be conducted regularly, covering physical, biological, and chemical parameters, in accordance with existing regulations. This will help prevent waterborne diseases and ensure the continued safety and quality of drinking water supplied to the public
