Abstract

The Ogan River has experienced a decline in water quality due to waste disposal by the community and can be harmful to health. A study conducted in the Cikijing River showed a pH of 4.43-4.8, far below the standard of 6-9, indicating high levels of heavy metals, in addition to being caused by urine and feces. This study aims to analyze the quality of clean water and public health complaints around the Ogan River area in Baturaja Barat District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. This study uses qualitative methods of observation, interviews, standardized laboratory tests, and documentation. The informants in this study were 36 people consisting of 35 people living on the banks of the Ogan River in Baturaja Barat District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency and 1 Health Center Officer selected by purposive sampling. The results of laboratory tests showed that the physical parameters (temperature, TDS, odor) met the standard quality standards, but the chemical (iron, manganese, chromium) exceeded the standard quality standards, while the parameters (nitrate, nitrite, pH) did not exceed the standard quality standards. Biological parameters (coliform and fecal coliform) also exceeded the quality standard. The results resulted in public health complaints felt by the community such as itching and the appearance of red spots after using river water. Communities who still use Ogan River water are expected to maintain the cleanliness of the river environment such as not littering in the river.
