Abstract

A Pb(II) ion concentration measurement device has been designed using the potentiometric method with an Arduino UNO R3, integrated with data communication via Visible Light Communication (VLC) using a red laser and a solar cell. The Pb(II) ion concentration value is obtained by converting the voltage measurement results from the ADS1220. The developed measurement system is capable of detecting Pb(II) ion concentrations with a precision of 0.1 ppm, an accuracy of 99.03851%; a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 0.68123%; an error rate of 0.96149%; a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.99018; a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.98045; and an intercept value (a) of 0.05603. Bidirectional VLC communication was successfully implemented using two modems, where Modem 1 functions as a controller to instruct Modem 2 to collect data and subsequently transmit the Pb(II) ion concentration measurement results back to Modem 1. The solar cell, serving as the receiver, exhibits a frequency response to the red laser as a data carrier up to 20 Hz, achieving a data rate of 40 bps using 2-PWM modulation with a 50 ms pulse width. The VLC system enables data transmission of Pb(II) ion concentration measurements over a distance of up to 100 meters in an air medium and 3 meters in a clear water medium.
