Abstract

This study synthesized NiFe2O4/chitosan-alginate/TiO2 composite used for photodegradation of procion red dye. The synthesis of NiFe2O4/chitosan-alginate/TiO2 composite was carried out using the co-precipitation method. VSM characterization results show that the NiFe₂O₄/Kitosan-Alginate/TiO₂ composite was successfully synthesized with a saturation magnetization value of 41.30 emu/g which indicates that this composite is superparamagnetic. The XRD characterization results of the NiFe₂O₄/Kitosan-Alginate/TiO₂ composite obtained the highest peak at an angle of 2θ = 25.25˚ with a crystal size of 62.70 nm. SEM-EDS characterization results show heterogeneous morphology with constituent elements in the form of C (6%), N (2%), O (21%), Ti (29%), Fe (30%) and Ni (11%). UV-Vis DRS characterization results show that the band gap value of the NiFe₂O₄/Kitosan-Alginate/TiO₂ composite is 1.92 eV. The pHpzc value of the NiFe₂O₄/Kitosan-Alginate/TiO₂ composite was obtained at pH 6.19. The optimum conditions for photodegradation of procion red dye by NiFe₂O₄/Kitosan-Alginate/TiO₂ composite based on RSM with Box-Behnken Design (BBD) were obtained at a concentration of 60 ppm, pH 3 and contact time of 31 minutes with a concentration reduction efficiency of 68.09% showing significant results with a quadratic equation model.
