Abstract

Background: Seborrheic keratosis (SC) is a benign skin tumor that commonly appears on the face and neck, especially in people over 60. KS therapy is generally by electrosurgery, leaving superficial wounds. One method to accelerate wound healing is the use of wound dressings. Channa striata is a fish with high albumin and amino acids that support wound healing. Objective: Comparing the effectiveness of 15% CS extract gel with Wound gel® as wound dressing after electrosurgery in SC patients. Methods: This study is a phase 2 clinical trial with a total sample of 30 SC patients treated with electrosurgery at the Polyclinic of Oncology and Skin Surgery Dermatology, Venereology and Aesthetics Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Patients were randomly divided into 15% CS extract gel group and Wound gel® group. The evaluation was examined on the day 7 and 14 post-treatment days using Baumann score parameters (erythema, edema, crust, re-epithelialization), side effects using Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and Dermatology Quality of Life Index (DLQI). Results: On day 7, the 15% CS extract gel group showed significant improvement over the Wound gel® group in all parameters, including erythema, edema, crusts, reepithelialization, Baumann score, VAS, and IKHD (p < 0.05). On day 14, both groups showed complete improvement). Conclusion: CS 15% extract gel is more effective than Wound gel® as wound dressing after electrosurgery in SC patients in accelerating wound healing and both intervention groups are similar in reducing pain and improving quality of life.. Keywords: Seborrheic keratosis, Channa striata, electrosurgery, wound dressing, hydrogel, wound healing.
