Abstract
SUMMARY THE ROLE OF SOCIAL FORESTRY GROUP (KPS) IN UPTD KPH AREA XI KIKIM PASEMAH IN SUPPORTING CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION Scientific paper in the form of a Thesis, 9 January 2025 Mega Rita Utami; Supervised by Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Wildayana, M.Si. and Dr. Febrian Hadinata, S.T., M.T. Environmental Management Study Program, Post Graduate Program of Sriwijaya University xvi + 168 pages, 20 tables, 2 pictures, 21 attachement SUMMARY Social Forestry Group (KPS) is the main target for implementing forestry sector mitigation activities at the site level, that why the success of forestry sector mitigation is largely determined by the contribution of KPS involvement. This research has 2 (two) objectives, namely: 1) Analyzing the role of Social Forestry Group (KPS) members in Forestry Sector Climate Change Mitigation Activities at UPTD KPH Region XI Kikim Pasemah and 2) Analyzing the institutional performance of Social Forestry Group (KPS) in implementing forestry sector mitigation activities. This research was conducted in the Management Area of UPTD KPH Region XI Kikim Pasemah with the research objects of KTH Luang Kering and KTH Sungai Geruntang from July to September 2023. Sample selection was done purposively (intentionally) to obtain more accurate information from reliable sources. The number of respondents were 36 people. The research method is used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The results of the research showed that respondents' knowledge of climate change and mitigation still low was compared to Social Forestry knowledge. From the 36 (thirty-six) persons, 3 (three) persons had high knowledge, 5 (five) persons had moderate knowledge and most of the 28 (twenty-eight) persons had low knowledge. Institutional performance is directly related to the role of member in carrying out their duties and obligations according to their status. Based on the performance assessment conducted, KPS Luang Kering received a score of 54.55 (good category) and KPS Sungai Geruntang received a score of 48.69 (adequate performance). Performance was assessed in 3 (three) aspects, namely 1) administrative and institutional aspect, 2) group activity aspects and 3) reporting aspects.KPS is administratively and institutionally good, marked by the existence of a clear organizational structure, Articles of Association (AD), Bylaws (ART) and a clear division of tasks between the chairman, secretary, treasurer and their members. Aspects of group activity are analyzed in terms of implementing mitigation actions.Actions to increase and maintain absorption are actions that are routinely carried out although overall the implementation of the KPS Work Plan has not reached the optimal target. KPS currently plays a greater role as an implementer of forestry sector mitigation activities which are programs/activities ix of the government/agency/institution. KPS actively implements climate change mitigation actions in the forestry sector, mostly in the form of participatory roles only. The reporting aspect of both KPS still needs to be improved, from a maximum score of 6 (six) each KPS received a score of 2 (two). The reporting submitted by KPS was not timely and the documentation was incomplete. Reporting was only done by KPS administrators because they were considered to have more ability in terms of group administration. It can be concluded that KPS currently plays a greater role as an implementer of forestry sector mitigation activities which are programs/activities of the government/agency/institution in the form of a participatory role only. The importance ofinstitutional strengthening, mentoring, monitoring and evaluation and need for good coordination, synchronization and collaboration between KPS and stakeholders. Further research to assess the success of forestry sector mitigation through land cover analysis and carbon calculations for all Social Forestry management areas, especially in South Sumatra Province.
