Abstract
Fly ash is the ash residue from coal combustion. The silica in fly ash can be used to improve the compressive strength of concrete. High-quality nanosilica can be produced through the synthesis process from fly ash waste. The materials used in this study include fly ash, HCl solution, NaOH, aquadest, and Kangen water. Variations in HCl molarity (1 M, 1.5 M, and 2 M) were applied to determine the optimal conditions for nanosilica synthesis. Material characterization was performed using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) to evaluate the crystal structure, morphology, and chemical composition of the produced nanosilica. The results showed that increasing the concentration of HCl significantly affects the particle size and purity of the nanosilica. From the XRD test results, it was concluded that lower molarity results in smaller particle sizes and a higher percentage of amorphous content. The XRF and SEM test results concluded that lower molarity produces the highest amount of silica. Based on the tests, the optimal molarity for the synthesis process was 1 M, which produced silica purity of approximately 53.848% and a crystal size of 52.68 nm, with 2.90% crystalline content and 97.23% amorphous content.
