Abstract

The objectives of this research are (1). to analyze factors that influence the conversion of land coffee into a land of salacca. (2). to analyze differences in the incomes of farmers who do the conversion and the farmers who do not do the conversion. (3). to describe the impact on socio-economic life of the farmers due to the conversion of the land of coffee to the land of salacca. The research was excuted on January 2011 to July 2011, using survey methods. The data used are the primary data obtained directly ffom an interview with the sample of farmers. and secondary data obtained from the Office of Dempo Makmur Village Head, Department of Agriculture, past research and others. Factors that significantly affected the conversion of land of coffee into land of salacca are education, agricultural experience and income. The income average salacca farmers is Rp 21.818.225/Ha/Th higher than income average Coffee farmers is Rp 5.090.990/Ha/Th. The impact caused ffom salacca land conversion into coffee land were addition of salacca non-land assets in form of two-wheeled vehicles (motorcycles) and the purchase of land for bigger salacca agriculture , then quality change of life which is housing of human resources improvement by saving the rnoney from salacca selling for their children’s school fee.
