Abstract

Estuary of Banyuasin river is a place where it is influenced by various human activity which can influence the balance of ecosystem in estuary of Banyuasin river. The Influence could be showed as the change of community structure of makrozoobenthos and as the degradation water quality. The purpose of this research are to know the community structure of makrozoobenthos and to know the water quality in estuary of Banyuasin river. This research was conducted in May - July 2005. The research method is descriptive and the determination of research station using purposive random sampling. Sample of makrozoobenthos, water and sediment were taken away ffom 6 stations. Sample of makrozobenthos was identified in laboratory and then calculated the biodiversity index, similarity index and dominancy index. Sample of sediment was analysed in laboratory to know the total of organic matter and size of sediment. The result of this research showed there are 31 species makrozoobenthos which is the include in 6 classes, those are Gastropoda ( 14 species), Bivalvia ( 7 species), Crustacea ( 1 species), Polychaeta ( 8 species), Schapopoda ( 1 species), and Asteroidea ( 1 species). The range of biodiversity index 1,790 - 3,004, range of similarity index 0,706 - 0,962 and range of dominancy index 0,137 - 0,223. based on Biodiversity index t i t indicated that the water have a little problemor light impure, but the waters in the station 2 indicated was not polluted.
