Abstract

People with Diabetes Mellitus can show negative responses to their illness such as thinking that they are useless, angry, and experiencing anxiety. Anxiety in people with DMT2 is twice as high as someone who does not have diabetes. The anxiety felt can be caused by sudden changes in life, the possibility of serious complications that can lead to death, and long-term treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of Benson relaxation and lavender aromatherapy on anxiety in patients with DMT2. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest with a control group. The sample in this study was 34 respondents who were divided into two groups, namely the experimental and control groups. The combination of Benson relaxation with lavender aromatherapy was carried out for three consecutive days and on the last day a posttest was carried out using the PAID questionnaire. The results of the statistical test using the independent t-test showed a p value of 0.000 (p value <0.05) which means that there is a significant difference in the average anxiety score between the experimental and control groups, this indicates that the provision of a combination of Benson relaxation and lavender aromatherapy has an effect on patient anxiety. The combination of Benson relaxation and lavender aromatherapy provides a calming and comfortable effect and is easy to do. This therapy can be recommended as an additional therapy in patient anxiety management.
