Abstract

Sauropus androgynous L. Merr. are one of the annual vegetable plants that have tropical and subtropical adaptations and are quite drought-resistant. However, the growth of katuk plants experiencing drought will differ from that of normal katuk plants, and it is not yet known how long katuk plants can survive under drought stress. One of the efforts that can be made to reduce the impact of drought is mulch. This study aims to determine the effect of drought stress with varying drought durations and the application of organic mulch on the growth and yield of katuk plants. (Sauropus androgynous (L.) Merr.). This research was conducted in the Greenhouse and Plant Ecology and Physiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province from June to September 2024. This research uses the Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) method, which consists of 2 factors. The first factor is the duration of drought (C) with five treatment levels, namely 0 days of drought (C1), 3 days of drought (C2), 6 days of drought (C3), 9 days of drought (C4), and 12 days of drought (C5). The second factor is organic mulch (M) with two treatments, namely without mulch (M1) and with mulch. (M2). The research results can conclude that katuk plants can survive under drought stress conditions, but their growth and yield differ from katuk plants that receive adequate water supply. The longer the katuk plants experience drought, the more their growth and productivity decline. Based on drought duration, katuk plants can survive up to the 12th day, with the best results obtained from treatment 0 days of drought. Additionally, using organic mulch on katuk plants has a positive effect in reducing evaporation in the growing medium, as evidenced by the best results obtained from plants using organic mulch.
