Abstract

The phenomenon of bullying continues to occur and the number of cases continues to increase every year. This study aims to obtain descriptive data on assertive behavior, obtain a picture of the tendency of students to become victims of bullying, and find out the relationship between assertive behavior and the tendency of students to become victims of bullying at SMP Negeri 07 Palembang. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The study population included all grade VII students at SMP Negeri 07 Palembang, totaling 356 people, and a research sample of 78 students determined by the Slovin formula. Sampling was carried out using the Simple Random Sampling technique with the help of the Wheel of Names application. The results of the study showed that the level of students' assertive behavior was in the high category, with a percentage of 35% (27 students) and the level of students' tendency to become victims of bullying was in the medium category, with a percentage of 45% (35 students). The results of data analysis show a correlation coefficient (r_count) = -0.264 with r_table = 0.2227 or 0.223 (-0.264 > 0.223) which means there is a negative relationship between assertive behavior and the tendency of students to become victims of bullying at SMP Negeri 07 Palembang. For further research, it is expected to be able to carry out follow-up actions such as providing services or developing media to improve assertive behavior and reduce the tendency of students to become victims of bullying, and it is also expected to be able to conduct research with a larger and wider population and sample.
