Abstract

Effectivity analysis of ethanol addition on quality of Pertalite to achieve Pertamax Green specification had been carried out at the Laboratory of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional RU III. This research aims to evaluate the potential of Pertalite as a base material in producing alternative fuels that suitable to Pertamax Green specifications with the addition of ethanol. Pertamax Green is an innovation of Pertamax RON 92 combined with 5% ethanol which is more eco-friendly, but its distribution is limited. Therefore, Pertalite was chosen as a base material due to its abundant availability. This study added ethanol to Pertalite with variations of 10, 15, and 20%. Furthermore, analysis was carried out using the ASTM method and evaluation of the mixing results on various characteristics referring to the Pertamax Green specification. Based on research, the addition of ethanol to Pertalite with a volume of 10, 15, and 20% met the specifications Pertamax Green on octane number, ditillation, copper strip corrosion, RVP, density, existent gum, aromatic, and olefin content. Meanwhile, the results of sulfur content test of each sample did not met the minimum limit on the Pertamax Green specification. The addition of 20% ethanol (v/v) to Pertalite is the optimal formulation because it shows highest octane number of 96,8, as well as the lowest aromatic, olefin, and sulfur contents, respectively of 20,996%v/v, 12,891%v/v, and 0,0145 %m/m.
