Abstract
This study studies the process of producing concentrated latex and utilizing orange peel waste as a natural curdling agent to increase the dry rubber content (DRC) in latex. The processing of concentrated latex in this study uses the curdling method or latex concentration method with the addition of curdling agents. The addition of curdling agents aims to separate the water content or commonly known as serum contained in the latex, so that it will increase the dry rubber content (DRC) of the latex. The final results of the study on the process of making concentrated latex with 12% honey orange peel curdling material produced a dry rubber content (DRC) of 56%, this result has not reached the SNI ISO 2004:2017 standard which requires a percentage value of dry rubber content (DRC) of 64%. Based on the final results, the total solids content (TSC) in the concentrated latex produced was 59%. The results of the analysis of the ester fatty acid number (VFA) in concentrated latex were 0.083% w/w, which exceeded the predetermined standard based on SNI ISO 2004: 2017. These results are considered less good when compared to the curdling process that uses chemicals in general, but the use of orange peel can curdle latex with an increase in the dry rubber content (DRC) in latex, which initially had a dry rubber content (DRC) of around 33% to 56%.
