Abstract
Composite is the mixture of two or more different materials made to get another material with better physical and mechanical characteristics compared to those of its every forming component.This research includes particle composite aimed to analyze the mechanical and physical characteristics of polypropylene (PP) matrix composite strenghtened by the coal fly ash. The observed physical and mechanical characteristics are the tensile stress, tensile strain, elasticity modulus, impact energy, and density value. Those charecteristics can be identified by conducting tensile test, impact test, and density test. The type of polypropylene (PP) used in this research is the pure polypropylene (PP) of PT. Pertamina (Persero) RU III Plaju, Palembang, while the filter used in this research is the coal fly ash of PT. Bukit Asam Tbk. (Persero) Tajung Enim, Sumatra Selatan. The specimen is firstly made by filtration method using mesh 100,150,200, then the material mixing is done by using blender, and then the material is heated until it is melted. The melted material is then molded by using hand lay up method and tested by using tensile standard JIS Z 2201, impact JIS Z 2202.The volume variants used are 70% PP 30% fly ash,The optimum result got from the variant mesh70% PP 30% fly ash is that the tensile stress is 2,262 kgf /mm2, the tensile strain is 0,8333 %, the elasticity modulus value is 4,5199/mm2, impact energy value is 17,186 J/mm2.
