Abstract

Structured Academic Controversy (SAC) is a learning model that develops students' critical and argumentation thinking skills through a structured debate between two different points of view. The ability to argue becomes one of the important skills in learning Economics because it trains students to think logically, express opinions, and make decisions rationally. This study aims to determine the effect of applying the Structured Academic Controversy (SAC) learning model on improving students' argumentation skills in class X Economics subjects at SMA Negeri 10 Palembang in the 2024/2025 academic year. The research method used is quantitative with an experimental approach. Data were collected through tests and observations to measure argumentation skills. The results showed that the application of the Structured Academic Controversy (SAC) model had a significant effect on improving students' argumentation skills, as evidenced by the difference in pretest and posttest results. The average pretest score was 58.96, while the posttest score increased to 84.3. The t-test shows that tcount 12.144 ≥ ttable 2.030, so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. In addition, the results of the observation of students' argumentation skills also increased from 70,8% (first meeting), 87,5% (second meeting), to 95,8% (third meeting) which showed the effectiveness of the SAC model.
