Abstract
Rice cultivated in tidal marsh Type C usually had a low pH below 4 until the soil became sour and as a result interfered with growth, especially during rice germination, because in low pH soils there was usually high Al and Fe content which caused disturbances in root morphology. Therefore, efforts were needed to deal with this problem, and one of the efforts that could be done was by priming the seeds. The purpose of this study was to determine whether rice seeds treated with priming could increase the germination and resistance of seeds planted in acidic soil. The location of this study was at the nursery Kamila Seedling 31, Tanjung Pering, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. Coordinates -3.214827, 104.636659. The study was held from March to April 2025. The design methodology used was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 1 control treatment, resulting in 5 treatments. Each treatment was repeated 4 times, so there were a total of 20 experimental units, and each experimental unit contained 30 rice seeds. Thus, the total number of seeds studied amounted to 600 rice seeds. The priming treatments used were aquades water, KNO3 solution at concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%. Next, the rice seeds were soaked for 24 hours, drained for 5-10 minutes, and then sown in seedling containers using tidal swamp soil planting media with a pH of 3.6, which was carried out in the seeding area (greenhouse). The best treatment results were obtained in rice seed halopriming or priming treatment using KNO3 1.5% solution with the highest average values on the parameters of germination, coleoptile length, root length, fresh weight, and dry weight. The parameters of vigor index and uniformity of growth obtained the best results in priming treatment using aquades water or hydropriming. The lowest mean values on all variables were obtained in control rice seeds or rice seeds that did not undergo priming treatment. In conclusion, priming treated rice seeds using KNO3 solution with a concentration of 1.5% increased germination when planted in low pH soil or acidic soil.
