Abstract

Informal sector workers have ergonomic risks because they are required with heavy physical activity during work. This is because they have to lift, pull, and push heavy iron materials while working. Based on initial observations, it is known that there are still workers who do their work with awkward postures, therefore it is necessary to conduct a study related to ergonomic risks in welding workshop workers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the ergonomic risks of welding workshop workers in Kalidoni District, Palembang City using the Ovako Working Analysis System (OWAS) method. The design of this study was qualitative with an observational descriptive approach using the OWAS method. The informants in this study amounted to 10 welding workshop workers, of which 1 worker as a key informant and 9 workers as ordinary informants. The results showed that 5 informants scored 2 (medium), 3 informants scored 3 (high), and 1 informants scored 4 (very high). Therefore, it is concluded that the six welding workshop workers have awkward work postures with moderate to very high levels of complaints. Welding workshop workers are advised to use tools such as work tables and chairs so that workers do not need to bow and squat when doing their work.
