Abstract

Dehydration is a condition in which the body lacks sufficient fluids because the amount of fluid lost exceeds the amount consumed. Adolescents are more susceptible to dehydration due to their high levels of physical activity and suboptimal fluid intake habits. Daily fluid requirements in adolescents are influenced by various factors such as age, gender, activity level, environmental conditions, and nutritional status. This study aims to analyze the relationship between nutritional status, fluid intake, and exercise habits with the incidence of dehydration among adolescents at SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya. The study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used in this study was random sampling. Data were collected from 110 students through interviews, anthropometric measurements, and hydration assessments using a urine color chart. Data analysis was conducted using the chi square test with a 95% significance level (α=0.05). The results showed that 40.9% of adolescents were overweight, 40.9% had inadequate fluid intake, 80.9% regularly engaged in physical exercise, and 79.1% experienced dehydration. Statistical tests indicated no significant relationship between nutritional status (p = 0.266), fluid intake (p = 0.845), and exercise habits (p = 0.816) with the incidence of dehydration. To prevent dehydration, adolescents are encouraged to develop the habit of drinking water consistently every day, especially before and after engaging in physical activities. Schools also play an important role by ensuring the availability of easily accessible drinking water for students and providing education on the importance of maintaining adequate fluid intake to support health and daily activities.
