Abstract

The long process of cervical cancer treatment has an impact on physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. The treatment experience often affects the meaning of life, emotions, relationships, and religious rituals of the patient. Patients tend to get closer to God as a form of self-strengthening so that they remain sincere and able to face their illness. Spirituality is one of the coping mechanisms in this process. This study was conducted to understand the spiritual experience of cervical cancer patients. The method used is qualitative research with a phenomenological study approach. The sample was determined using a purposive sampling technique. The study was conducted in April 2025 at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang, involving in-depth, face-to-face interviews with eight informants. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method. The results of the study found that cervical cancer patients had spiritual experiences, including transformation of the meaning of life, positive emotional reinterpretation, inner strength through reflection and spirituality, positive social relationships in spirituality, spiritual connectedness with the environment, deepened relationship with God, and spiritual transformation in worship practices. The spiritual experience of each cervical cancer patient is unique and does not always reflect a positive or negative attitude in dealing with the disease, but the existence of spirituality can influence how individuals interpret illness, foster hopes, and become a source of strength in undergoing the treatment process. This can encourage the formation of an attitude of acceptance and better adaptability to cervical cancer conditions.
