Abstract

Self-compassion and loneliness are important issues among adolescents, especially in Islamic boarding schools. Self-compassion, defined as an attitude of understanding and acceptance of oneself in times of difficulty, can serve as a buffer against negative feelings. On the other hand, loneliness is often experienced by adolescents in Islamic boarding schools due to the surrounding environment, high expectations, and limited quality social interactions. The strict and disciplined environment in Islamic boarding schools can exacerbate feelings of loneliness, especially if adolescents lack adequate social support. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-compassion and loneliness among adolescent girls in Islamic boarding schools. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at the Raudhatul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Sakatiga, Ogan Ilir, with 151 respondents chosen using a stratified random sampling technique. Data collection used the Self-Compassion Scale (SWD) questionnaire and the University of California of Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale Version 3, which have been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank Correlation text. The results of the study obtained a p-value 0.000 with a correlation value of -0.522, which indicates a moderate relationship between self-compassion and loneliness in female adolescents in Islamic boarding schools with a negative value, indicating that the higher the level of self-compassion, the lower the level of loneliness, and vice versa. Developing an attitude of compassion towards oneself can help adolescents reduce feelings of loneliness and improve their emotional well-being.
