Abstract
Transfersom of ethanol extract of petai pods is intended to improve drug delivery through the transdermal route because this system is able to improve the bioavailability of ethanol extract of petai pods and it is easy to penetrate through the skin. However, transfersom of ethanol extract of petai pods has its own deficiencies in use, so manufacturing of transfersom gel of ethanol extract of petai pods to make transfersom easier to use and delivery through the skin. formulation of transfersom gel is done by combining the gel bases carbopol and PVA with concentration variations of 0,5%, 1%, 1,5%, and 2%. Characterization of transfersom gel that was carried out: organoleptic testing, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersion, adhesion, protection power, washability, physical stability by cycling test and centrifugal test methods, and diffusion rate test. The optimum formula obtained is a gel with ratio of carbopol and PVA concentrations of 1%:1%. The characteristics of the optimum transfersom gel formula showed that almost all tests met the requirements, namely in organoleptic testing, pH, viscosity, protection power, washability, physical stability, and a fairly good diffusion rate of 60.3515%. The stability of the optimum gel transfersom formula for temperature shows the different of shelf life value for room temperature, refrigerator temperature, and oven temperature, where respectively for 14, 10, and 8 days. Transfersom gels have better stability at room temperature. FTIR interaction study shows no chemical interaction that occurred with no new peaks formed so that the bases gel did not affect to transfersom of ethanol extract of petai pods. Transfersom of ethanol extract from the skin of petai pods can be made into gel because transfersom gel of ethanol extract of pods that produced has a good characteristics. Keywords: transfersom of ethanol extract of petai pods, transfersom gel, carbopol, PVA, concentration variations
