Abstract
University students are a group highly vulnerable to mental health issues due to social and digital pressures. This study aims to identify students' perceptions of the need for mental health services and emphasize the importance of seeking professional help to reduce mental health risks among students from diverse backgrounds. This research employed a descriptive observational method with purposive sampling, involving 1,291 students from Sriwijaya University. Data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire distributed via Google Forms, shared through WhatsApp, Instagram, and directly on campus. The data were analyzed univariately using IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 to illustrate students’ perceptions and needs related to mental health services. The findings revealed that most respondents were from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), were female, and were in the early semesters of their studies. Although the majority of students stated that their mental condition was good or average, there were indications of psychological issues such as anxiety and depression. Most respondents acknowledged the importance of mental health services, with 96.4% supporting the provision of such services on campus. The most needed services included counseling, involvement of professionals (psychologists), and easy, private access to services. This study highlights that although many students perceive their mental health as stable, a significant number still experience stress and anxiety. Most support the availability of on-campus mental health services, underlining the importance of social support, mental health literacy, and access to professional services in addressing these issues.
