Abstract
Sleep is a vital biological necessity for human health. Physical activity that occurs during sleep, especially in the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) phase, can serve as an indicator of dreaming or sleep disorders. With the advancement of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, sleep activity monitoring can now be carried out practically and noninvasively. This study aims to design a system for monitoring body movements during sleep using a passive infrared (PIR) sensor HC-SR501 connected to an ESP32 microcontroller to determine sleep duration and quality. The system transmits data in real-time to Google Spreadsheets as a storage and analysis platform. Test results show that the system is capable of accurately detecting body movements with an average accuracy rate of 96.66%. The recorded data includes timestamps and duration between movements, enabling the analysis of calm or restless sleep patterns. These findings suggest that the combination of PIR sensors and cloud-based storage platforms such as Google Spreadsheets is an effective, practical, and affordable solution for monitoring and analyzing human sleep patterns.
