Abstract

The objectives of this study are: 1). To identify the social condition impact of Kapal Betung toll road construction towards paddy farmers such as social interaction, social conflict, water supply and environmental sustainability in Karya Jaya Village. 2). To analyze the impact of economic condition, such as paddy farming income, and farming employment opportunity towards Kapal Betung toll road construction in Karya jaya Village. This research was conducted in Karya Jaya Village , Kertapati Sub-District, Palembang City. The Location was chosen intentionally (purposive location sampling) with the survey method. The data research was conducted in October 2018. The purposive sampling technique was taken in this research. The sample of the research is 30 farmers. The selected data are primary data and secondary data. The results of this research indicate that there are changes in social impact caused from the conversion of agricultural land as a result of to the construction of the Kapal Betung toll road are the reducedofsocial interaction of the community, there has been a social conflict between the community and the government due to differences in compensation and land acquisition processes, environmental degradation such as floods, drought, the quality and quantity of water also reduced, and there is a lot of household plastic waste in the riverside area. The economic impact can be seen from 2 indicators, such as paddy farming income and farmers’ employment opportunity. The income of paddy farming before the conversion of agricultural land is Rp. 3,025,410 /lg/yr, and adecreasing in paddy farming income after conversion of agricultural land was Rp. 1,742,093 / lg/yr. Farmers’ employment opportunity before conversion of agricultural land was 48.1 HOK /lg /yr and decreased after conversion of agricultural land by 29.7 HOK/ lg/yr.
