Abstract

The expenses for health devices indicate that average annual national expenses IDR 17 trillion, role of national industries to realize the expenses 5% (IDR 850 million), and 95% of health divices are imported from abroad. Need and market opportunity on medical devises is very high. The objective of this study is to develop a numerical modeling based on Finite Element Method and to simulate the fatigue life and crack growth rate of cancellous bone. The method used is to analyze the morphological indices of the cancellous bone and to reconstruct the cancellous bone structure in effective quality to prepare it for mechanical analysis base on Micro CT images. The results showed that the relative losses determined by micro-CT measurement shows slightly lowered at average 10% different compared with weight measurement, the degradation rates determined using exact (degraded) surface area at particular immersion time demonstrated average 20% higher compared to degradation rate obtained using original surface area. It was found that a good agreement of elastic modulus determined between experimental work and simulation. The morphological parameters of volume fraction, surface area, and trabecular separation of the specimen were significant correlated over immersion time and elastic modulus.
