Abstract

Elderly individuals are a vulnerable group in need of support to improve their quality of life. The Kartini Elderly School in 15 Ulu Subdistrict, Jakabaring District, Palembang City serves as a community-based empowerment initiative for the elderly. This study aims to describe the process and impact of empowerment experienced by participants in the elderly school. The research used a qualitative case study approach with interviews, observations, and documentation involving school leaders, teachers, administrators, elderly participants, and community members. The findings show that the elderly became more active in social and religious activities, gained new knowledge about health and lifestyle, and experienced increased self-confidence. They were also able to share their experiences with others and felt more comfortable speaking in public. The program was supported by active administrators, collaboration with the local health center, and family involvement. Challenges encountered included physical limitations and unstable health conditions among the elderly.
