Abstract
The aim of research was to determine the effect of salt application (NaCl) to the growth and yield of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) on dry land. The research was conducted at the oil palm plantations, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya, Indralaya from February to July 2017. The oil palm were from Marihat cultivar with aged 16 years and triangular system of planting 9 x 9 x 9 meter. The research used randomized block design (RBD), the treatment was application doses of salt in five levels, that were 0 kg, 1 kg, 2 kg, 3 kg and 4 kg per plant. The Application of salt doses was repeated five replication and each unit consisted of two plants to obtain 50 plant samples. The results showed that he higher the dose of the salt decreased the male flower production. The Salt treatment did not affect the chlorophyll of leaf, rachis increase, female flower production, and fruit bunch production. The usage of salt for the oil palm was done by some farmers, as a the alternative material for increase plant growth and yield.
