Abstract

This study aimed to determine the diversity and abundance types of insects in Alang-alang Lebar sub district of Palembang City. The samples include terrestrial and aquatic insects by using survey and roaming/cruising methods, the sampling was conducted in May to June 2015. The results of this research is that wefound the type of insects in Alang-alang Lebar sub district are consisting of 10 orders 53 families 95 species and the type of total insect is 864 individual. Orders which are found consisting of Blattodea, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Mantodea, Odonata, and Orthoptera. Sampling zones consist of original marsh, marsh zone which has been covered by soil, marsh zone which have been turned into residential and marsh zone that has been turned into a shop or industrial factory. Techniques of sampling which were used are hand picking, insect net, pitfall trap, sticky trap, light trap, and aquatic net. The highest diversity index at 1ststation (original marsh) is 0,37. The relative abundance found in many original marsh is 36,98%. The dominance type index of the lowest third station (settlement) is 0,02. The highest type of average index was found in the original marsh is 0,08. The results information of this study is used as additional learning material of Biology subject for the tenth grade senior high school student in the second semester on the Topic of Biodiversity in Indonesian, Basic Competence 3.2 Communicating Indonesian’s biodiversity and conservation efforts as well as the usage of natural resources.
