Abstract
Sungsang’s Waters area is located in Sungsang, Banyuasin II, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra is an estuarine waters where most of the people work as fishermen. The many activities of the population cause the influx of heavy metal waste that can accumulate and harm aquatic biota and consumers. Mercury (Hg) that accumulates in fish eaten by humans can cause health problems and can be detected through meat, gills, and liver. The fish that dominates the catch of fishermen using tangsi nets is Gulamah fish (Otolithoides pama). This study aims to determine and compare the concentration of mercury (Hg) in the meat, gills, and liver of gulamah fish (O. pama) caught in Sungsang waters. The results will be compared with food quality standards, and the Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) of mercury by humans will be calculated. The concentration of mercury (Hg) is 0.0771 mg/kg in fish meat, 0.6637 mg/kg in the gills, and 0.6342 mg/kg in the liver. The gills have the highest mercury content, followed by the liver, and the meat has the lowest content. The EDI value of fish meat at each station remains within safe limits: 0.0000208 mg/kg/day in Tanjung Carat, 0.0000229 mg/kg/day in Tanjung Buyut, and 0.0005728 mg/kg/day in Sungsang Settlement Waters. The Gulamah fish (O. pama) body part not at risk for consumption is the meat.
