Abstract
Silage physical quality will determine voluntary intake quantity of beef cattle ration. The aims of this research was to study the determine physical quality of silage feed made from napier grass. This research was held from February to March 2017 at experiment farm and Animal Feed and Nutrition laboratory of Animal Science departement Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University. Completely randomized experimental design (RAL) with 4 various content of silage treatments (P0: 50% leaf part of napier grass + 50% stem part of napier grass, P1: 100% leaf part of napier grass + EM-4, P2: 100% stem part of napier grass + EM-4 and P3: (50% leaf part of napier grass + 50% stem part of napier grass) + EM-4) were applied on this research, each treatments has 5 replication. Obseved parameters were flavour, color, texture and pH value. The results showed that proportion of plant section has no significant effect (P>0,05) on color and texture of napier grass silage, however pH and flavor were significantly affectend (P<0,05). It is implied that physical quality of napier grass silage were affected by leaf part than stem part.
