Abstract
Bambang lanang (Magnolia camphaca (L.) Baill. ex Pierre) is one of the local wood plants in South Sumatra, which have been developed in society’s land. Bambang lanang’s woods have a fine fiber and it is classified into strong classes and durable classes II and it can be used as a basic material for industry, construction, furniture, veneer, plywood, particleboard, carving and decoration stuffs. The recalcitrant nature of the bambang lanang’s seed can cause the seed content high water and the rapid germination. The technique of seed storage becomes an important thing to develop in planting trees to produce high quality seed with a number of seeds as needed, the variability of seeds and availability of seeds continuously. The purpose of this research is to delay the rapid of seed germination in bambang lanang by assessing the effect of various temperatures and times saving on seed germination of bambang lanang. The research was conducted from February until June 2016. The sampling seed bambang lanang was taken in Lesung Batu Village, City District Court, District of Lahat, South Sumatra Province. This research was conducted in the Laboratory of Plant Physiology Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. The method used completely randomized design pattern factorial with 2 factors with 1 comparison that obtained with 12 treatment was added a combination of controls for comparison, each combination is repeated 3 times at room temperature: ± 31 ° C, ± 25 °, ± 18 ° C, ± 4 ° C and the retention time 0 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 6 weeks. Based on the research results shows that the treatment of interaction beetwen of temperature and time saving significantly affected on germination rate, germination and seed vigor index of bambang lanang. The treatment ± 18 °C to delay seed germination bambang lanang at the retention time of 27.07 days 2 weeks, 4 weeks amounted to 15.63 days and 26.25 days to 6 weeks, which is not dissimilar to ± 25 °C to delay seed germination bambang lanang at the retention time of 16.64 days 2 weeks, 4 weeks amounted to 19.92 days and 6 weeks xii Universitas Sriwijaya amounted to 10.16 days with the quality germination and vigor index remains good when compared to the control treatment. Germination speed, germination and vigor index were both produced by the treatment of storage at ± 18 °C and ± 25 °C at all times to keep (2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks) compared to control treatment. A normal ranges between 90-93% sprout produced in temperature treatment ± 18 °C and ± 25 °C. An abnormal 25 % sprout produced in control treatment(0week).
