Abstract

To get a good quality weld connection, please note the design of weld, the way of welding, construction as well as the usefulness of the material to be welded. Medium carbon Steel is use in wrench tools, ships, bridges and trains. In this research, joint method use is welding smaw use elektrode E7018 but variations of current electrical welding different, namely 90A, 120A and 150A. And performed testing using the Dye Penetrant NDT, observations of the structure of the macro and microstructure, as well as testing the hardness rockwell method B to know microstructure changes and the value of hardness. Test result at a specimen welded with a current of 150A show more defect weld occuring in areas parent metal and regional the joint, and has a wider area HAZ than the specimens welded with 90A and 120A current. In testing the hardness, the highest value of the average specimen contained in HAZ region, and the highest value on specimens with 120A current that is equal to 76.03 HRB.
