Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the conversion patterns applied by rubber farmers to switch to oil palm plantations in Sukamulya Village, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, to analyze the factors that encourage and inhibit rubber farmers' decisions to convert land to oil palm in Sukamulya Village, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, to analyze the difference in profits between rubber farming and oil palm farming in Sukamulya Village, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, to analyze the application of GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) for rubber plants in Sukamulya Village, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. This study was conducted in December 2024 using a survey method. The sampling method used in this study was proportional stratified random sampling. The total sample was 36 farmers, consisting of 10 farmers who converted and 26 farmers who did not convert. The results of the study showed that land conversion patterns carried out by farmers in Sukamulya Village were mostly gradual or sporadic. Farmers' decisions to convert rubber land to oil palm are significantly influenced by two variables, namely farm income and age of rubber plants and other variables such as farmer age, number of dependents, farming experience, productivity, farming costs, land area, and commodity prices do not show a significant influence. Oil palm cultivation is more profitable than rubber, with an average income of IDR 20,306,788, while rubber is only IDR 12,477,163. The difference of IDR 7,971,086 shows the economic superiority of oil palm for farmers in the area. The application of GAP in rubber cultivation in Sukamulya Village is classified as moderate in all aspects, from land preparation to post-harvest. This reflects a fairly good understanding of farmers, although it still needs improvement, especially in controlling OPT and post-harvest efficiency. Keywords: conversion pattern, gap, land conversion, oil palm, rubber farmers
