Abstract

This study aims to analyze the physical fitness condition of rowing athletes from South Sumatra who were selected to compete in the XXI National Sports Week (PON) 2024 in Aceh–North Sumatra. This research employed a descriptive quantitative method with a survey approach, involving direct fitness testing of 15 athletes. The physical components measured included anthropometry (BMI), strength (push-up and sit-up), endurance (Balke Test), speed (20-meter sprint), agility (shuttle run), flexibility (sit and reach), and explosive power (vertical jump and medicine ball throw). The results showed that most athletes were in the "poor" category across nearly all physical components. Specifically, endurance, core muscle strength, and lower-body explosive power scored very low. Only a small number of athletes achieved "good" results in agility and flexibility. Overall, the data revealed that 93.33% of athletes were classified as having "poor" physical condition, while 6.67% were in the "very poor" category, and none reached the "good" or "excellent" categories. These findings highlight the need for a comprehensive evaluation and improvement of physical training programs to support athletes’ optimal performance in national competitions.
