Abstract

Shadow Beauty merupakan drama Korea yang mengangkat isu kehidupan ganda remaja perempuan bernama Goo Ae Jin, yang di kehidupan nyata adalah siswi tertutup dan korban perundungan, namun di dunia maya tampil sebagai Genie, seorang selebgram cantik dan populer dengan penampilan sempurna. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap representasi komodifikasi kecantikan dalam drama tersebut melalui pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes, yang mencakup tiga tahapan analisis: denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Analisis dilakukan terhadap 14 adegan terpilih dari episode 1 hingga 13. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media sosial berperan sebagai ruang utama dalam eksploitasi tubuh dan penampilan yang diperkuat oleh teknologi digital seperti filter wajah dan pencitraan digital. Komodifikasi kecantikan yang ditampilkan dalam drama ini berdampak pada krisis identitas, ketergantungan terhadap pengakuan sosial, serta tekanan emosional pada individu, khususnya remaja. Selain menampilkan dampak negatif seperti tekanan untuk tampil sempurna, konflik identitas, dan isolasi sosial, drama ini juga memperlihatkan sisi positif dari komodifikasi kecantikan, seperti peningkatan ekspresi diri, peluang ekonomi, dan kesadaran akan literasi media. Dengan demikian, Shadow Beauty tidak hanya merepresentasikan kritik sosial terhadap budaya visual dan standar kecantikan digital, tetapi juga memperlihatkan dilema antara pencapaian penampilan digital dan kerentanan emosional dalam proses pembentukan identitas perempuan di media sosial.
